Mary Broidy teaches Ashtanga Yoga and Yoga Tone at HGC. Before becoming a yoga teacher, Mary was a First VP and Senior Economist on Merrill Lynch’s Fixed Income Trading floor, forecasting her views for the bond trading and sales force and their clients internationally.  Grief-stricken by the death of her brother and traumatized by 9/11, Mary, who had been a runner (1991 and 1992 NYC Marathons) did not feel like running anymore. She took up yoga as a means to heal and was attracted to the athletic nature and life-giving power of the Ashtanga yoga system and its transforming breath. As part of her journey, Mary spent several months  in India studying  Ashtanga  yoga and its philosophy. She received her Yoga Teacher certification from Beryl Bender Birch’s Institute of the Hard and Soft Yoga as well as from the International  Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Center of Neyyar Dam, India. She also trained with the late Sri K. Pattabi Jois both in India and New York.  Following the birth of her son, Mary has stepped up her cross-training and developed Yoga Tone using light weights to further strengthen and tone the body, linking movement and breath.
